06/20/09 | by Roy [mail] | Categories: Welcome

everyone needs to please be aware of huge tidal exchanges this weekend. They are upwards of 16 ft which is massive and means currents will be running hard. Viz yesterday was 10-15 ft or so after you got out of the top 20 ft. Have a great diving weekend.

Specialty of the Month Offer:
PADI has a monthly Specialty of the month. For June it is Peak Performance Buoyancy. When you complete the Specialty of the Month, you recieve a gift from PADI as a reward for continuing your education. Learn the principles of underwater photography. This is a GREAT course and is designed to get your trim, hovering and weighting in correct order. This is a 2 dive specialty. Normal cost for this class is 100.00. As a specialty of the month promotion, I am offering it at $75.00. (must have a minumum of 4 students). Class dates will be June 27th for the checkout dives.

Upcoming Classes:
Here is a list of classes that are on the books for this month:
• Advanced Open Water: June 20-21; cost is $150.00 (unless you have just finished open water, then it is $125). We will do 5 dives over 2 days. The first three dives are on Bandito Charters in Tacoma and will cover; Peak Performance, Night and Boat diving. The second day (sunday) will cover Deep, and Navigation. This is a class that allows you to dive to 100' and learn other important skills that assist you in becoming a better diver. Space is limited, so please sign up early. (I have 3 spots left for this class)

• Enriched Air Nitrox June 29th; cost is 95.00 for this class. We will spend 4 hours in the classroom learing about the physics and physiology of diving with enriched air as well as how to plan for these types of dives. This is a spectacular course in which in many cases you can increase your bottom time by nearly double, who wouldn't want to do that?Remember this counts towards your Master Scuba Diver and DiveMaster rating._

• Emnergency First Response: July 15th. cost is $95.00 plus books This is a comprehensive course that covers Primary care (cpr-rescue breathing and shock management) as well as secondary care (breaks, strains and sprains) as well as the AED (automated external defribulator) and care for children. This is a great course and a prerequisite to the Rescue Diver. This is an internationally recognized certification and you do not have to be a diver to take this course.

• Rescue Diver: July 20, 22 and checkouts the 25th. Cost is 200.00. This course is so very important and as many of you have heard in my classes, it is one of the most important courses you can take. Learn how to assist a paniced dive buddy; how to protect yourself, deal with an unconcious diver at the surface and at depth, proper lifting and towing procedures. This course will make you work; however, this will be the most rewarding course you will take to date.
Deep Diver Specialty: July 10 and 12. Cost is 200.00 plus books and materials. Learn the fundimentals of deep diving including: dealing with narcosis, blowing lift bags, emergency decompression, the effects of pressure at depth, timed skills at depth. What a great course to increase your skills as a diver. For those who are looking to do my wreck course, I ask that this class be done prior to going to Nanaimo to dive the Cape Breiten and Sechatuwan wrecks. Our dives on Friday will be at 6:00 or so.

Upcoming Dives:
Each Month we will have a few dives that people can join in on. Each dive that is announced as part of this email will require a signed diving release from every diver. The release can be found at: http://seavisions.biz/forms/Seavisions-Adventures%20in%20diving%20program%20realease.pdf

Mukilteo State Park

04/04/09 | by John | Categories: Welcome

Did you know that Lighthouse State Park has never been open to diving and that it is not allowed? That’s right; Lighthouse State Park in Mukilteo is restricted from scuba diving by the city. And yes, I know we all have dived there in recent months. Well, there was an open forum meeting with the parks department and some members of the city council this past week and the parks department was convinced to open the park to scuba diving. In fact, they now want to emulate Edmonds and create an underwater park there. The divers at the meeting, led by Mike Racine of WSA, weren’t sure that was the right place for an underwater park and one member of the city council stated that the long range plan is to remove the Mukilteo oil dock, move the ferry terminal to that spot, and turn the existing ferry dock area into an underwater park. Anyway, the city council will formally consider a recommendation by the parks department on April 20 at 7 pm at the Mukilteo Town Hall. We are looking for a SRO turnout by all divers especially those members of the dive community that use Mukilteo…I wonder who that could be?
