What to Expect
Where are checkout dives normally held?
I usually hold my checkout dives at one of two places, either ALKI coves Two or Three, or Mukilteo on the north side of the Silver Cloud Inn. In most cases, Mukilteo will be the checkout location. How Long are the checkout dives?
Most checkout dives are between 4-5 hours each day for Open Water Checkouts. What Can We Expect during our dives?
During your open water checkout dives, we will do about 2/3rds of the skills we did in the pool, only in the open water. You can expect to spend a good bit of the time doing skills, however, I do make it a point to ensure that we get a fun dive on every dive that we do.What happens if I can not make the checkout dives?
Things happen in everyone’s life and it is not unusual for us to have students join in on another class to complete their course. Talk you the one of the instructors to ensure that you are accounted for when the next dive comes available. What will I see?
MeNo Seriously, what will I see during my dive?
Because we do Checkout dives in training friendly locations, i.e. new divers are not going to damage anything, it is pretty basic as far as the aquatic life. There are an assortment of starfish, anemones, rockfish, perch, silversides, huge varieties of crabs and a plethora of other critters, even the occasional octopus. More often than not though, the dives are full of pretty usual creatures that you would expect in this area and they are all exciting. Will I see any sharks?
Not likely. The Puget Sound is not a huge magnet for sharks and although we do have some, it is pretty uncommon to see them in the areas and times that we will be doing checkout dives. How Cold will it be?
Well, the Puget Sound stays pretty consistent year round with only a 5-6 degree variation in temperature. Generally speaking, you can figure between 45 and 50 degrees, with some fluctuation based on existing weather patterns, but; usually, this is where it will be.What if for some reason I start but can not finish?
Like above, we will make arrangements for you to continue on so that you do not miss out on a spectacular opportunity. As long as the reason you were not able to continue was something other than injury to your self or others, we will get you squared away. How many people die during training?
Hmmmm, as long as I do not lose more than 1 student per every 2 classes, I can keep teaching…..right now, I have a little extra to spare :-)…..Seriously, my classes and the PADI system as will all systems are designed to be safe and full of education. Knowledge is power and we are all about enabling you with as much power as you can handle….
